Sunglasses in Fashion

A variety of styles makes sunglasses a popular accessory

Gone are the days when sunglasses were worn solely to protect your eyes. With so many different styles and types available now, it's no wonder they have become a must-have fashion accessory.

What's available

Here's a closer look at some of the more popular styles.

Aviators: Although it was most likely the movie Top Gun that initially made this style popular, celebrities and other films like Pearl Harbor have made them a mainstay. These oversized sunglasses feature metal frames with oval-shaped lenses, which were originally developed by the manufacturer Ray Ban for military aviators. Today, aviators are available in a variety of colors and styles, including mirrored and wrap-around.

Wayfarers: Also developed by Ray Ban, the Ray Ban Wayfarer sunglasses are the dark style of sunglasses seen in popular films like Blues Brothers or Risky Business. While the style itself has remained popular since its 1952 introduction, there are now many variations in colors and sizes.

Teashades: These wire-rim sunglasses feature a medium-sized round lens and create a type of rock-star look that was first made popular by John Lennon and Ozzy Osbourne. Much like the other styles, these have been adjusted to meet the style demands of today. They are a now sold in a wide-range of colors and sizes.

With so many distinct styles, sunglasses are an easy and affordable way to make a fashion statement. The key is to select a style that not only complements the structure of your face and your fashion sense, but to also find one that fits your personality.
