Quality Control Specialist

Job Title: Quality Control Specialist
Reports to: DC Manager
FLSA Status: Full-time; Non-Exempt
Career Level: Essential

Purpose: The Quality Control Specialist is responsible for ensuring all product received into and sent out of the Peepers Distribution Center meets Peepers’ quality standards. In addition, this role is also responsible for assisting with other distribution center projects.  

This position is based at our headquarters in Michigan City, IN


Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Quality Control:
    • Inbound Receiving QC
      • Assist in initial QC of shipment upon arrival
      • Perform AQL tiered-level quality control (QC) after initial QC has been competed
    • Daily QC
      • Perform routine QC checks on in-stock inventory
      • Execute QC checks on triggered items.
        • This includes, but not limited to, barcode scanning issues, customer feedback, product development issues, etc.
      • Communicate all QC findings to Purchasing & Logistics Coordinator including extensive, Excel-based QC reports with Corrected Action Plans to be sent to manufacturers
    • Large QC Projects
      • Work with Inventory Control Specialist and Inbound Receiving Specialists on needing to relocate/transfer inventory within NetSuite
  • Assist with other DC functions as needed
    • Assist DC Team with Consumer Direct orders on an as-needed basis, including, but not limited to the following:
      • Picking
      • Packing/Casing
      • Shipping
      • Making boxes to prepare for upcoming promotions/sales
    • Assist DC Wholesale Team Lead with special projects on an as-needed basis, including, but not limited to the following:
      • Assist in picking/packing orders
      • Assist in labeling product for orders
  • Assist DC Receiving Team with special projects on an as-needed basis, including, but not limited to the following:
    • Opening and sorting Master Cartons
    • Putting away Forward Pick and Replenishment Inventory after the receiving process has been completed
    • Assist DC Inventory Control Lead with special projects on an as-needed basis, including, but not limited to the following:
      • Assist with Demand and Stock replenishment lists
      • Assist with filling orders on the Zero’s table
    • Assist DC Returns Specialist with special projects on an as-needed basis, including, but not limited to the following:
      • Relabeling/Cleaning/Inspecting glasses
      • Sorting through WH RMA’s
      • Putting away CD returns and WH RMA’s


Knowledge, skills and abilities:

  • High school diploma or GED
  • Ability to read with good comprehension and precise mathematical skills
  • Must be a self-starter, results-oriented, and a team player
  • Excellent verbal and written communications skills
  • Excellent skills managing multiple competing priorities daily
  • Strong critical thinking and logical reasoning skills
  • Excellent organizational, time management, and project management skills
  • Competent with computer software such as Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, PowerPoint)
  • Ability to utilize the in-house ERP and OWMS software systems within 60-days of employment


Physical Demands and Working Conditions

  • Communication with coworkers requires an ability to express oneself as well as perceive and exchange ideas
  • Viewing computer terminal; perceiving and transcribing data with accuracy and keyboarding fill a portion of the day in a warehouse environment
  • Walking while carrying objects, crouching, standing, bending, kneeling, reaching with hands and arms, and grasping objects fill a portion of the day in a warehouse environment
  • Light work: Exerting up to 10 pounds of force occasionally and/or up to 20 pounds of force frequently, and/or up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects
  • The employee is often required to stand and walk throughout the entire day
  • Reliable physical attendance is required
  • The employee is required to stay awake throughout the shift
