Quality Control Specialist

 Job Title:                    Quality Control Specialist

Reports to:                 Purchasing & Planning Manager

FLSA Status:              Full-time; Non-Exempt

Career Level:             Essential (orange)



Purpose:  The Quality Control Specialist is responsible for ensuring all product received into and sent out of the Peepers’ Distribution Center meets Peepers’ quality standards.

This position is based at our headquarters in Michigan City, IN.



Duties and Responsibilities:


  • Inbound Receiving QC
    • Assist receiving team in initial quality control (QC) of shipment upon arrival (1 piece per SKU)
    • Perform AQL tiered-level quality control (QC) after initial QC has been competed
  • Daily QC
    • Perform routine QC checks on in stock inventory
    • Execute QC checks on triggered items.
      • Including, but not limited to, barcode scanning issues, customer feedback, product development issues, etc.
    • Perform corrective tasks (i.e., relabeling incorrect barcodes) to ensure product is in sellable condition
    • Use Excel-based QC reporting to log all issues, defective quantities, and QC time spent
    • Follow all inventory processes including, but not limited to, FIFO and NetSuite inventory moves to QC warehouse to ensure digital record in NetSuite of all QC related tasks
    • Communicate all QC findings to Purchasing and Planning Manager
      • Including extensive, Excel-based QC reports with Corrected Action Plans to be sent to manufacturers
    • Work with Product Development (PD) to ensure one approved “Keep” sample of each style is kept in QC room to use as a standard
    • Facilitate weekly meetings with PD & Supply Chain to discuss current QC findings and issues
    • Present monthly QC Report during inventory meeting to Senior Leadership Team
    • Assist Purchasing and Planning Manager in developing and implementing next-level QC program using OWMS



Skills & Knowledge Required:


  • High School diploma or GED
  • Ability to read with good comprehension and precise mathematical skills
  • Must be a self-starter, results-oriented, and a team player
  • Excellent verbal and written communications skills
  • Excellent skills managing multiple competing priorities daily
  • Strong critical thinking and logical reasoning skills
  • Excellent organizational, time management, and project management skills
  • Competent with computer software such as Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, PowerPoint)
  • Ability to utilize the in-house ERP and OWMS software systems within 60-days of employment



Physical Demands and Working Conditions


  • Communication with coworkers requires an ability to express oneself as well as perceive and exchange ideas
  • Viewing computer terminal, perceiving, and transcribing data with accuracy and keyboarding fill a portion of the day in a warehouse environment
  • Walking while carrying objects, crouching, standing, bending, kneeling, reaching with hands and arms, and grasping objects fill a portion of the day in a warehouse environment
  • Light work: Exerting up to 10 pounds of force occasionally and/or up to 20 pounds of force frequently, and/or up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects
  • The employee is often required to stand and walk throughout the entire day
  • Reliable physical attendance is required
  • The employee is required to stay awake throughout the shift
