Frequently Asked Questions

Helping you understand progressive readers

What are Progressive Readers?
Progressive Readers offer more versatility and all-day convenience—so you don’t need to switch reading glasses throughout the day.

How are Progressive Readers different from Readers?
Readers offer the reading correction in the entire lens, where progressive readers start with a clear non-corrective lens at the top and provide a smooth transition into the reading correction—all in one pair.
Why do Progressive Readers cost more?
Progressive readers feature a specially designed advanced lens, with a smooth transition into a reading strength, compared to Readers that have one strength in the entire lens.
Are they hard to get used to?
Some people need a short adjustment period (a few days to a week), but most adapt quickly. We recommend wearing them consistently to get used to the natural movement between viewing zones.
Can I use Progressives instead of my regular glasses?
Progressive Readers are especially useful for up-close tasks and multitasking. They do not correct distance vision and should not replace prescription lenses.
How do I know which strength to choose?
Choose your regular Reader strength.
I am a quarter strength, how do I know which strength to pick if mine is not available?
We recommend starting with the lower strength first and then exchanging to the higher strength if needed.
What is the strength of the ‘intermediate’ zone?
Our no-line progressive readers will be clear on top and then gradually strengthen as your eyes move down the lens to a full reading strength on the bottom. Typically, the intermediate zone will be roughly half the strength of the reading strength purchased.

Example: Purchased in a +2.00 strength. Top is clear (or no correction), intermediate is roughly +1.00 and reading portion at the bottom is +2.00.
How long does it take to adjust to them?
The adjustment period may be different for everyone as sometimes you have to retrain your brain on how to use them. Typically, we suggest wearing them as much as possible so that overtime, it will get easier to know where in the lens to look through.
